The national Dutch government writes on its website: “Sufficient air exchange (ventilation) is needed in buildings. This reduces the spread of pathogens that cause respiratory infections, such as the corona virus. ” According to the requirements, the ventilation must not adversely affect human health. Air exchange requires removal of ‘old’ air and a direct supply of fresh outside air.
In recent years, with regard to the ventilation of buildings, it is understandable that the focus hasbeen on such energy- efficient ventilation. In practice, this often means ventilating as little as possible, often on the basis of measured CO₂ values. To achieve sufficient ventilation, and thus minimize the spread of the Coronavirus in buildings, will in many cases mean that more ventilation is required. For example, the advice of Marcel Loomans, assistant professor of Building Performance (field of application indoor environment and health) at Eindhoven University of Technology is to reduce the minimum ventilation level from 1200 ppm CO₂ (according to building regulations) to 800 ppm CO₂. The problem with this will in many cases be that the installed heating system has insufficient capacity because it is not calculated on this basis.
Both the ventilation system and the heating system have sufficient capacity. In that case you do not need to do anything.
The ventilation system has sufficient capacity, but the heating system does not. In that case, the ventilation can be adjusted based on the desired ventilation and can be additionally heated with one of the mobile heating systems from Thermobile. The advice is not to recirculate in this case, but to blow in heated outside air through the heating system for extra air exchange. If possible, blow in at the top via an air duct or perforated hose.
The heating system has sufficient capacity, but the ventilation system does not. In that case, use can be made of a mobile heat recovery unit from Thermobile or a mobile heating system in combination with a filter box fitted with Hepa filters,
whereby filtered, heated fresh outside air is pumped into the building. Sometimes a combination of the above systems will be the ideal solution.
Both the heating system and the ventilation system have insufficient capacity. In that case, a mobile heating system can be used in combination with a filter box where filtered, heated fresh outside air is pumped into the building. In some situations, a combination of a mobile heating with filter box and a mobile heat recovery unit will be the ideal solution.
Thermobile offers three possible solutions for the mentioned situations in which the existing ventilation system and / or heating system has insufficient capacity:
Thermobile offers a wide range of mobile heating systems from 25kW to 400 kW. Possible fuels are diesel, biodiesel, propane, natural gas, electricity and wood pellets. Thermobile’s mobile heating solutions are robust, energy efficient and easy to install and operate.
The mobile filter box is equipped with multiple HEPA 14 filters with which up to 99.97% of the virus particles can be filtered out. The number of Hepa filters depends on the airflow. As a basis, a minimum of 35% unfiltered fresh outside air is drawn in and up to 65% filtered recirculation can be used. The Thermobile mobile filters are also robust and easy to install and use. An additional advantage is that the filter boxes do not have to be provided with an extra fan, but that use can be made of the powerful fans of the Thermobile heating systems. If no heat needs to be added, the combination of filter box and heating system will serve to clean the air. If the temperature drops too far, the heating system will automatically be switched on and the air will not only be cleaned, but also heated.
With a mobile Thermobile HRV unit, extra ventilation can be temporarily added to a room. The “dirty” indoor air is discharged to the outside via a cross-flow exchanger and clean outdoor air is supplied. By using a cross-flow exchanger, the heat present in the indoor air is used to heat up the clean outdoor air. The energy saving with this is> 90%. The HRV units are plug and play and easy to install and operate.
